The American Legion Post is hosting the service this year and a luncheon will be held at the VFW Post following the services.
We continue to enjoy our freedoms today for the sacrifices made by those we honor. Come and be part of this service to help us pay tribute to those men and women.

We’re kicking off our biggest fundraiser of the year and we’re asking everyone to help out and participate. The days can be quite long when only a few volunteers are manning the stand. If you are able to help out it would be greatly appreciated. We are especially in need of our Spanish speaking comrades and sisters. Our community has a very large Hispanic influence and the difference in languages can end up as a non-sale for the Post . . . if we can’t speak with them!
So please sign up and volunteer. Your help does make a difference.
This has been a growing problem for the past few years. Our current heating and air-conditioning system is OLD. We've surveyed a number of our long-time members and none of them can remember when it was first put it!
Now we've finaly reached a point where the units and all the ducts need to be replaced. When Barry Colston climbed up to replace light bulbs in the tank he discovered great gaping holes in the ductwork.
One solution we might try is to get the system recharged, but the cost is over $1000 and it might require two or three recharges through the year because it's leaking coolant. Repairs so far this year have been over $700!
The bad news is that we need a 10 ton unit and the top of the line, with complete installation and warranty, runs close to $30,000. On the lower end we can get the job done for a little under $13,000, but the warranty is not nearly as good and because it's a small outfit, we'd have to close the whole post for at least a week, maybe longer.
Last year, 2007, our heating and air conditiong costs were $12,806.04. It has been estimated that the increased efficiency of a new system and ductwork would cut our costs by 20-25%. That's $2,560 to $3200 each year. No matter what system we end up going with, it'll pay for itself in less than 10 years!
Sounds like a lot of money . . . And it is. But people aound here keep saying this post is our home . . . And they are right. So now we need a major home repair.
So far we've raised almostr $6000 -- good, but not nearly enough. We are asking each of you to contribute according to your ability. There will be four categories of contributors:

All contributors will, in addition to receiving an appropriate certificate, have their name listed and displayed on an Honor Roll Scroll to be displayed in the Post.

We are looking for new Honor Guard participants. We are in need of members to participate in Military Funeral Services anytime but especially during the weekdays of Monday - Friday. Anyone interested should contact the Post at 310-679-7472 or email us at Info@VFW2075.org.
Training will be provided.
If you can volunteer and donate your time to help with some minor repairs around the Post, your service is greatly needed. Your experience in your trade would seriously help us in determining what we need to repair...and estimating a cost factor for this repair. Your contacts with building suppliers would be an additional asset to us in purchasing materials and in saving money for these repairs.
Besides the on-going efforts to raise funds for the replacement of our antiquated heating and air conditioning system, we still have some doors that need some fixin’ up. If you can wield a hammer or use a screw driver we can use your help.
If you are available and interested in providing the Post with your experience and help, please contact the building manager, Bob Steinhauer, or leave a message at the Post at 310-679-7472.
